SO YOU GO DOWN.

The colony got six hours to evacuate. They left everything. One maintenance robot stayed behind on standby, deep in the shaft, until something woke it up.

You are HOP-7. Somebody down there rewired your wake circuit, built your flip drive by hand, and left you a message. Then the transmissions started coming up from below.

The old shaft lights still arc when you pass under them. The crystals sing, and they remember what they hear. Something nests in the dark and wakes when you get close. Further down, the rock stops agreeing about which way is down, and the colony's security never got the order to stand down. And you are not the first unit sent this way.

Every crystal you catch rings one note of a song. Every signal shard decodes a little more of what happened here. When the mine gets you, the colony digs your parts out of the rock and rebuilds you from local stock.
